"Our new scheme in Penneys is part of our goal to help people make more sustainable choices and to recycle or donate with convenience. "While it was very encouraging to see how many people already donate their pre-loved clothes and footwear, we’ve learned that there is still more to do to help educate customers about what can be recycled and where," he continued. "We want to help educate our customers and bring them on this journey with this and part of this is understanding what they think today about recycling old clothes. The clothes dropped off in store are collected, sorted and either re-used, recycled or repurposed.ĭamien O’Neill, Head of Sales at Penneys, said: “We’ve recently launched our bold new ambition to become a circular and more sustainable business: making it easier for customers to donate or recycle their pre-loved clothes is an important part of this. The scheme follows the success of its UK launch, and aims to encourage customers to recycle their pre-loved clothes responsibly. Takeback boxes are now in all of Ireland's 36 Penneys stores, and they are accepting clothes, footwear, bags and textiles from any brand, in any condition, to be "resold, recycled or re-imagined" according to the fashion retail giant. Collection boxes for pre-loved clothes will be popping up across Cork's Penneys stores as part of their new takeback scheme which aims to make clothes recycling a whole lot easier.
